Can't see fish very well with DI.
« on: January 06, 2014, 08:59:50 PM »
I still love 2d sonar, because it is super easy to read, and very reliable. I have been doing really well with side imaging and enjoy the benefits. It works really well for me. I am having a hard time, though, coming up with the settings for down imaging that reads fish very well. I can see weeds pretty well, but hard to make out fish. I have seen lots of really nice Lowrance downscan shots, I just cant seem to get my unit to duplicate.

You are not going to see fish as well with DI as you will with 2d, especially in the water column.  But both have its merits.  While 2d is only going to see whats below the boat, SI and DI will see out to the side.  With SI and you should be able to see fish in and around tight structure better.  Where on 2d it may just show up as a big blob, on DI or SI you will be able to see structure and usually see individual fish.

I encourage anyone who is new to make some good recordings and come home and play them back.  You can switch to different views when you play back and make snapshots etc.  You can also change and adjust your settings during playback to see what affect they have.  Maybe this will help to bring out the fish better in some of your views.

Good Luck,
