chart clutter

When adjusting my chart clutter going down in numerical number my depth reading gets all weird and reads  much deeper then i really am.. any thought or is this normal... RandyK

Depending on water conditions this can be normal.  The surface clutter menu affects the sonar readings down to a certain level which when combined with the filtering of the clutter at the surface; allow the unit to correctly read the lake bottom.
