My first SI unit
« on: July 28, 2013, 10:31:28 AM »
Hey everyone new to the forum and new to SI spent a bunch of time reading about installs and other useful tips for using the 898 to its maximum potential. I'll basically be using mine to fish for trophy fish! My last unit was a Humminbird dual ducer wide beam so the bracket to hold the transducer was the same I just swapped them out. Gonna give it a test run to see how it will work from there if the motor blocks it there then my only other option is to move it under the boat i think with one of those stem mounts let me know what you think constructive criticism is always welcome because I sure want to get the most of her! Heres a few photos.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums David.

It looks to me like you have the angle of the HDSi transducer wrong.  It should be parallel to the surface of the water when you boat is underway.  It look way too low in the back.

Does your motor have hydraulic tilt/trim capabilities?

I'm not sure what I can do about the angle because the transom runs at an angle like that. And as far as height I went off of what they instructed and that was 1/4" below the transom it doesn't say whether that 1/4" is from the end or the front of the ducer. And yes I do have hydraulic trim on my boat. I'm gonna test it out tonight hopefully and see if it works or not I'm thinking I might need the stem mount transducer for it instead and put it underneath.

David,
Where the transducer is bolted to the Pivot arm is where the transducer can be adjusted to change its running angle.  Loosen these two bolts up enough to move the transducer and then tighten them back up.

I always get worried about ducer in front of bunk board like that.  If you miss on your line up could rip it off boat.

The transducer should pop up if the bunk is hit.
