New 798, transducer install compared to old transducer
« on: May 06, 2013, 12:49:39 AM »
The two photos I've attached show the transom area on my 1993 Cajun.  It's got a Johnson Fast Strike 150 mounted on the transom with no jackplate.

The previous owner has the transducer for the existing locator mounted in location A on the photos.  I don't think this is correct because underneath and in front of that is where the plane of the hull actually extends deeper into the water.  I've got that area marked B.  That locator worked fine at low speed but with the boat on plane it would lose the signal.  I'm sure location A was just a lot of air while the boat was on plane.

When I install the transducer for the 798, I'm thinking area B is a better bet.  Do the experts agree with me?

Thanks,
Chad

I would leave the transducer in location A and add an AS-Si-DB-Y cable and an inside-the-hull XP-9-20 transducer.  This will keep the CSi transducer up and out of the way of being damaged while allowing it to get good Si readings.  The XP-9-20 will allow for good 2D readings, even at high boat speeds.  The As-Si-DB-Y will combine the Si sonar from the CSi transducer with the 2D sonar from the XP-9-20 transducer for your 798ci HD Si unit.
