598ci HD SI black screen trouble
« on: February 11, 2013, 02:42:43 PM »
Hey,

I was wondering if anybody has had trouble with the 598ci HD SI unit. I bought this from BassPro last week, wired everything up, took it to the lake and the DI and SI neither one will work. Everything works in DEMO mode but not the other. It's just a Black screen. Sonar works fine but the other two do nothing. If I turn the sensitivity and contrast all the way up I can faintly see a color outline but that's it. I have reset default numerous times, adjusted tranducer up, down, tilt and still nothing. Turned everything else on the boat off, motor TM depth finder and nothing. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Correct transducer selected? No side to side obstruction of the transducer?

The default setting for the connected transducer is compact sidescan. I tried setting it on Compact sidescan, QuadBeam, and Universal Sonar 2 and none of them worked. The transducer is mounted on a transducer bracket on the transom. I raised the motor out of the water so there were no obstructions at all. Version of software is 6.460. The transducer is a xnt 9 SI 180 T U

I will say that when I switched the transducer to quadbeam it looked like it was going to work but then all the screens would change and the only views I could see were in sonar. The DI and SI were completely gone. Went through all of the views and there was no option for SI or DI when quadbeam or universal sonar 2 were selected.

Is this the only transducer connected up to your 598ci HD Si unit?
No AS-Si-DB-Y cable or anything else?

If CSi transducer is the only one connected to your 598ci HD Si unit than the problem is either in the unit or the transducer.  See if you can find someone else with a Humminbird Side Imaging unit (any model will do) and test your unit on with their transducer.  If it works, than the problem is in your CSi transducer.  If it still does not work than the problem is in the unit. Either way you should call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks to set up getting this fixed. 1-800-633-1468

Thanks for the info. I called Humminbird support today and they're sending a new transducer. Hopefully this will take care of everything.
