File converter program
« on: June 15, 2012, 08:35:07 AM »
G'day guys a newbie here and confused as ;D

I have recently recorded some Humminbird side/down imaging video and now I would like to view it on my PC. What a  nightmare so far.

As I am running Windows 7 on my PC the standard Humminbird .son program will not run.
I understand I need to convert the .son and .idx files to .xtf.

I have downloaded both the YellowFin and Humviewer but cannot convert the files. Any advice?

A bit rich of Humminbird to create the side imaging/down imaging function but not back it up adequately by keeping up with progress - you need Windows XP or Windows 98!!!!! to run the Hum .son file converter. These programs are ancient and would not work with too many other programs on the same PC nowadays....

Thank you for any assistance you may render..
Cheers,
Paul,

From my experience, Windows 7 is piece of crap.
A lot of people complain about it.
Things that work with Windows XP don't seem to work with Windows 7.
In my opinion, Windows 7 is not progress.

I use Hummviewer and do not convert the files.

When making recordings on the HB you must start and stop each recording otherwise the program will not see end of file and the programs will not play.

Next copy the files from the card to the computer
It is the dat file which will play the recordings, so <file> <open> and highlight the dat file you want to play then <enter>

hope this helps

Paul

When I make a recording on the HB, the first folder I see is "Record", inside this folder (example) is "R00001" and "R00001.dat.  I do not to need to go any further to play HumViewer.  At this point I load Humviewer, <File>, <open>, <Look in:>

Since I keep my recordings on my desktop then under "Look in" I scroll up to the "Desktop" file <SI Recordings>, file <record>, inside this file is R00001 and R00001.dat, highlight the dat file then <open> the program should start loading and play.  At the top right side <play> to start playing the recording.

Now the files in the R00001 is: B000.IDX, B000.SON, B001.IDX, B001.SON, B002.IDX, B002.SON, B003.IDX, and B003.SON

Comparing your files to mine they are correct.  The key is to load HumViewer then open the files until you can highlight the dat file and key open.

These are the same files in the R0000?, regardless of the record numbers.

Hope this makes sense.

The .DAT file is the pointer that provides the file locations for the associated sonar recordings. (.IDX abd .SON) The R000XXX is the sequence number of the recorded files.
Record is the current file containing the recordings filed on the card at this time.
See if this helps for filing on your computer.
