898c My Di stinks
« on: February 24, 2012, 04:55:19 PM »
My screen can be packed with big arches in 2d. But blank in Di. Trees show great but not fish. I tried different hz and sensativity. Kinda the same probs with Si. What am I doing wrong?

Bill, is it possible to take a coupe of screen snapshots and post?
It always helps to see what you are seeing...
Has it always been like this or did it just start happening..

DI images in the HB SI units are computer generated from the data received from the SI crystals in the HDSI xducer...

They are not going to be of the same quality images we can find on the internet of "true DI" images from units that have dedicated DI crystals in their xducers...

I never use DI in my 1197...(but then again I didn't buy this 1197 for the DI)..

Rickie is spot on DI of any kind won't compare with 2D sonar there is no substitute for real time 2-D sonar.

Bill,
These guys are right in that seeing fish is easier on the 2D sonar than on the Si or Di sonar.  The latter takes more experience and menu changes.  Posting a few split screen images (2D sonar + Si sonar, 2D sonar + Di sonar) will help us help you.  So let us see what you are seeing.

Well i think 2 d fools you quite alot as well. Quite often underwater currents suspended branches, seaweed and other things will show up as arches on your screen. At least this is something we have experienced in the lakes we fish in norway and sweden. And we have tried different brands and  models so its not only a bird phenomen.

Yes, sometimes the arches do fool us, but usually they are fish.

Also, it does take a lot of work and practice to get to see fish in Down Imaging and in Side Imaging.  Right now it takes effort and playing with the screen speed and sensitivity settings to get the most out of it.

I like to record as much as possible and then look at it on my computer to see what I have missed, then look at it again on my unit, usually then I see the fish I missed on the unit's screen. Most of the time they are on my HB screen sometimes they are missing.  When doing this I bring my unit into the house to view in comfort because it takes time.

I believe that technology will only get better from here on, the current technology is taking us to places not of ever expected (my opinion) to see.

Thanks everyone. I went out to get some pics and forgot my SD card :(

Thanks for the help. I will try again.

BTW, I was looking at some old screen shots I have and they show fish in the Di mode. So somehow something changed. I will check all my settings again.

These two shots were taken at the same time.

Fish echos in "computer generated DI" is elusive at best...

I have most of the DI views in my 1197 "hidden" ... Because they're just not worth looking at...

This is probably the best DI image I've ever been able to capture....

Not very impressive for a $3000 unit... but I didn't buy this unit for the DI...

Update. I finally reset all back to defaults and all is working well again. I guess I had some settings mixed up somewgere. DI and SI are good again. And it got rid of the surface clutter problem on 2D.

Thanks all....Bill
