From what I have read so far, is that the units must have an Ethernet capabilities, plus I read that it may only be compatible with the newer units; 798, 898, 998, and 1198 (there are probably others that I missed).  There is a question whether or not Humminbird will be able to make software changes for older models with Ethernet capabilities.  We will not know until later in the year.

When the announcement came out I referenced the ad from Cabela's.. I was told HB did not write the ad and that it was wrong. That the 360 would not work on pre 98's. (from a HB rep)
I sent Cabela an email and followed up with a call but no one has responded back..
(remember the finger pointing posts)..
So I guess we are to assume that no 360 for us older owners...

We need to give Humminbird time to sort things out.
Right now, we just have a lot of anxiety and speculation.

It may not be until the Fall of this year that we know for sure what models can
use the 360.  They said Ethernet equipped models should be able to use it.

We just need to be patient.
I'm sure that Humminbird will make it work for as many models as they can.
It would be foolish on their part not to.
A possible 2 grand spent for every model that it might work with.

It is going to be a while before we know if the 1197 will support the 360, but I don't think there is any chance that models without ethernet will be able to utilize it.
 It is an ethernet accesory.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

You are right on that Bob.....
I wonder why they did not include the ethernet ready units and have a software change ready for us....
Talk about shooting your self in the foot.
This announcement came for only a few with money...
I would have thought in the larger window that they would want to market it to more folks..
Or maybe they figure us 97 guys are poor...

I don't know Chuck.

I think we need to give Humminbird a chance to see what they can do with it.
They would be absolute morons if they could make it work the the 1197's and choose
not to do so.  I think there are alot of 1197 users out there.

I think Humminbird was probably in a hurry to unveil something that will change the
sonar game.  Now that it's out, it will be awhile before we know all of it's capabilities and
what it is compatible with.  Who knows, the 360 might be a piece of crap, and we might not
even want it.

We just have to wait and see.

Chuck, I want passive trailed array acoustic hydrophone that will ID fish by species and mark GPS numbers, depth, size and bait to be used.

Then I can go back and ss/di the spot.

The only people  that have one is the Navy and they want to use the Submarine too much. I told them I would use it only on weekends:-)
