898 pics
« on: January 17, 2011, 07:15:35 PM »
Got out today to place some christmas trees. Some of these trees are 8ft tall and they look so small on SI but the shadows tell the real story. I just have a problem seeing everything in great detail. I have my sensitivity up around 14-18 just to make my screen bright enough to see. What would help me see better detail and make the baitfish and fish pop. I got a 898 with the new 5.2 and you can take away the middle and see whats under the transducer.( i think)ila_renderedila_rendered

Switch it over to 800khz and bring your range down to around 40-45' and you should get some pretty good images.

If you made a recording, try playing it back and messing around the enhanced Settings.

Hope that helps.

To get the best images, your boat speed should be as slow are you can go and use a scroll speed close to the boat speed. The longer the beam is on an object, the sharper the image will be. Also if you what to stretch an object so it will look bigger, you can set the scroll speed a little higher.
Set the side range to around 3 times the depth to get a larger image of objects.
To make fish "pop" use the Enhance and set the Sharpness to low or medium. That will make other stuff look grainy but is best for fish.
Look at this post about that setting:

Thanks Wayne I was hoping you would comment. I have the scroll speed down 1 lower than boat speed most of the time. Just read over on the other site about Si Enhance now I gotta go back to the lake  :P LOL

dawg1419 After you get your settings set and object marked make passes over object at different
angles and record them. Play back with humviewer or yellow fin you will see a difference
in appearence of the object at different angles.   Gary
