question for all...have an 898c version 6.180...can i re-install software again over the existing...same version....the problem is as follows...got a navionics card,did not work correctly until the card AND the 898 was updated...all was well...got another boat w/Lowrance 27 lcx...put card in...would not load or work at all...could not even exit turn off the 27...am assuming that the 27 needed updating, but that is another problem and is just info so you know what i did...put card back into 898,now the real problem! card does not work as before, depths are not being displayed as they did before the dumb Lowrance deal...i have updated the Navionics card and this did not correct problem...am assuming H/bird problem w/software...yes or no...help WILL be much appreciated...second question...can SD cards be 'partioned' to hold more than one update or will i need more cards... long-winded but tried to give all info thank you for your consideration bill

Forget the 6.180 uppdate! Its history, and thank god for that!
The new software uppdate is 6.420 and as far as I know it works a lot better.

thanks for reply Kimi...for me 6.180 works fine...no problems at all...seems as if 6.420 has to do w/NMEA and networking... have only the 898c...no network in near future...if a re-install will fix me up that is all i need...if 6.42 is the fix, will do...thanks billewadnb

What does teh 6.420 software do to fix anything that was wrong with the 6.180 software? I know it adds the NEMA capabilities but I don't have that on my engine as it's old. I don't need any NEMA stuff right now. Did it fix anything else? And If so why don't they point that on on the download page at Humminbird Customer Support?
Forget the 6.180 uppdate! Its history, and thank god for that!
The new software uppdate is 6.420 and as far as I know it works a lot better.

As many of us know, some of us had problems whit the 6.180 software. The installation could go wrong resulting that you had to send the unit back to factory. There could be "loading..shutting down" syndrome. Or unstable behavior.
The new software 6.420 just seems to work smoot whitout any problems att all. It also give better readings att shallow water operation. Dont know if I just imagine, but sees like the SI is also giving a better picture.

Thanks for the Reply Kimi. Sounds like you are having fun diving those wrecks. I'd be doing something like that if I were younger and lived there. I'm a former scuba diver myself. But I did rescue diving and recovery in muddy and swift large rivers like the Ohio River in Southern IN. My friends still dive for the Fire Dept and use the 1198 Humminbird Unit from what I heard.

5eyes, you cannot just re-install the same software version in your unit. The unit will not recognize and load the same version. You will have to install either a newer or older version of software first and then reload the 6.180 software. May as well try the 6.420 software and if you don’t like it; re-install the 6.180 software.
As for the 6.420 software; the only official documentation I have says that the NMEA 2000 was added and that is it. However, from loading it on a unit myself and also from reading posts from others who have done so: there are additional changes that were made but I don’t know what all those changes were as I have no documentation to go by.
