Title: 788ci DI
Post by: RzorbackAngler on January 14, 2011, 10:25:37 PM
Question for Greg... can you convert last year's 788 ci model to a DI unit by purchasing the new transducer and updating the software if HB would make it available?

My answer in not 100% official, but:

No... since the original 788c don't have the 800 kHz signal built-in in the unit.
Technically, the unit should be able to use the 455 kHz signal for down imaging but I don't think they will do it to protect the sale of the new units.

Some have tested the SI transducer with a 700 series unit in Quadrabeam mode with some interesting results.. I do believe that a firmware revision could take care of this.

The official word on this is “No”.
I haven’t seen the transducer connections for the new DI transducer as yet so I don’t know if the proper connections would be made.  I also don’t know if the additional programming would fit in the older units either.
