my 898 update went all as planned. Had a little confusion in the beginning because of the .BIN file, but the nice lady at Humminbird walked me through it and we got it on the SD card. I took it home and plugged it into the Bird and followed the instructions. I wanted to thank the forum for "pounding" into my head that you must restore the unit to the factory settings before you start the download.
One more thing, I have been reading the other thread about screen protectors, anyone know where to get one for the 898? Or anywhere to get the material to custom cut one myself?

Glad to hear the update went good. I know a lot of people expect the .bin to be like an executable file and install some software or files or something.
As for screen protectors, here is one on ebay for the 898c.

This is not the guy that I order from but, looks good. I order from screenpatronus, but he does not list the 898 yet.

Maybe you can email him through ebay and see if he offers one. Very worst, you can order one for the 998 and cut it down.
