Help with power issue
« on: February 04, 2013, 06:52:47 PM »
I have a 797 in my console. I installed a 998 on the side, but I wanted to utilize the 797 for the maps and gps. I forget what stupid reason made me take the 797 out of the console, but I did and disconnected the cable housing. Ever since then, I can't get it to power on after I plug the cable housing back in. To try and troubleshoot it, I took just the power cable and plugged it in and made sure it was plugged in all the way. Still wouldn't come on. I played with the plug, pulling it out different amounts and trying to power it on. Finally, I could get it to power on. However, as soon as I moved the power cable at all, it would shut off. It seemed to work more often when the power cable was plugged in half way. I could never get it to come on if it was pushed all the way on. After a while, I just said heck with it and tried to duct tape the cables in with the power cable on halfway. It still worked once I got it back in the console. But of course, once I got out to the lake, it wouldn't come on. I tried wiggling the power cable under the console and no luck. I tried pulling and pushing it, and no luck. Any ideas?

Also, the 797 has a shoot through the hull transducer (the SI transducer was cut off to make way for the 998 transducer). What are my options with that? I thought about just unplugging the transducer cable, but during the few times I got the thing powered on, if I didn't have the transducer cable plugged in, it went to demo mode and exit wouldn't take me out of it. When I did have it plugged it, it looked like it was using the shoot through the hull transducer. Will that interfere with the 998 transucer reading? Can I shut the transducer off in the settings?

Try spreading the power pins apart a little bit so they would make better contact.
