Title: Waypoints
Post by: Sigler on May 08, 2012, 08:58:54 PM
How come sometimes when I mark a waypoint it puts a WP infront of the number and sometimes it doesnt? And another question can you set your units to store a waypoint in a number that has already been deleted in the past? The Lowrance I had would.

It depends on what else is turned on when you mark the waypoint.  WP is used when a waypoint is made unless either a Screen Snapshot is made (uses “S”) or a Sonar Recording is started/stopped (uses R).

You can manually name a waypoint with any name you want to.

Ok I understand that but why doesn't it put WP infront of all of them? And will the units fill the first open hole it sees or keep going to the next higher waypoint number?

The units are programmed to use the different letter so that the user will know that that waypoint is associated with either a Screen Snapshot or a Sonar Recording.  This will help you locate the structure that you may see in a Screen Snapshot or a Sonar Recording.

The unit will continue to use the next number until it is reset at the factory.  There was another way that someone figured out to get the unit to start back over and fill in the deleted waypoint numbers but that memory escapes me at the moment…

I have updated my firmware several times over the years and documented the effects on WP numbering. My WPs up until April 2011 do not have the WP designation in front of them. They start with a 0 and are numbered sequentially. The WP designation only started with a more recent update (don't know which one) in 2011. When that update was installed, the WP numbers started all over again with the WP designation in front. So I have both 001 and WP001, which are different WPs.

At the time of the switch, the snapshot designation also started over and caused a lot of confusion. I have many duplicate S designated waypoints that need to be renamed since they are in fact different locations. For example I have 2 S00024, 2 S00023, etc. For some reason or other the duplicates started at S00020.

Ok thanks Greg and Doc I was wondering if maybe it was an update. Maybe that can be an update Greg having the units go back and fill in open holes before going forward.

I was thinking the same thing Sigler.  Some type of waypoint reset numbering menu.  Maybe you could enter that into the Wish List?  I think that they would find it more of a valuable request if it came from a Customer versus an employee.
