updating system help
« on: March 30, 2014, 12:19:04 PM »
Hi I am updating to the latest update. not sure what I should or shouldn't disconnect.
My system 898 in dash with weather sense, standard gps puck, hd si transducer interlink. on the console 1198 I nterlinked. on the bow 1198 interlinked gps heading sensor puck, hd transducer. Trolling motor Terrova interlinked. all interlikned with the 5 port interlink hub.
I know unhook the weather sense.  But I am confused with all the interlinking.   :-\ thanks dave

Dave,
Instead of “interlinked” I think you mean “Ethernet connected”.  The InterLink accessory can only connect two units together and cannot work with the i-Pilo Link of the Terrova trolling motor.

I would disconnect each unit from any accessories, update the software and power them off.  Next I would reconnect the accessories to each unit and turn the units back on but only one at a time and would shut each unit down after it comes up and recognizes the accessories it is connected to.  After all have been updated this way I would power all three on at the same time.

Are you also going to update the software in the i-Pilot Link and/or its remote?

Hello, yes you are correct is  eitherneted together. I do not need to update the trolling motor or the remote did that last year.
So I should also disconnect the Trolling motor and disconnect the eithernet cables. upgrade them all. restore before and after. shut down and hook up accessories turn back on, if the register turn off hook up Ethernet system / trolling motor and start all three.

One other question on the down imaging transducer can I just hook it into the 1198 or do I need  to use a transducer switch? thanks for your help Dave

You can do either for the DI transducer but if you want to be able to use the Si sonar you will need to use the TS3 Transducer Switch.

thank you for your help. everything looks like it went well. Going out Friday for the on the water test. :D
I am thinking of hooking up the down imaging to 1198 as everything hooked to it is etherneted. If I turned off the HD side imaging sonar does it still keep sending the 200 hz  2d sonar ping? I don't want it to interfere with the down imaging. or do I need the switch to totally turn it off? thanks and sorry for what might be a dumb question.

If you turn that sonar off on the 1198 unit, than no the 200kHz sonar will not be pinging from that 1198 unit.

I’m not sure you are asking the correct question here though.  What are you trying to do and which units will have which transducers physically connected to them (I understand that they will be able to share some sonar between some of the units).
