Title: Brand new standalone Sonar Viewer with sidescan display
Post by: matt@reefmaster on June 12, 2015, 12:04:12 PM
We are excited to announce the launch of our standalone sonar viewer application for Lowrance and Humminbird sonar log files.

The ReefMaster Sonar Viewer is a Windows PC application that features a multi-channel sonar viewer with sidescan display over a world base map.

The Sonar Viewer has been designed with ease of use in mind - just select a sonar file from disk, and you are good to go.

We have a short introduction video that can be viewed here (https://vimeo.com/128269818), and more details (and a link to two week trial download) can be found on this page (http://reefmaster.com.au/index.php/products/sonar-viewer).

Please note that the sonar viewer requires Windows 7 or later, and hardware support for DirectX10.1 or later (which should be present on most systems). It will not work on virtual machines.

Does this work with Recordings made with the Humminbird Onix?

On the Onix you can tell it what channels to record. If I only record DI and DB can I still view the file?

It'll show whatever channels are available, although we have had some issues with Onix files that seem to record channels to different "slots" than we are used to seeing with older Humminbirds, and sometimes this results in us mis-identifying the channel. This isn't a huge issue for the 2d channels, but it is an issue if one (or both) of the sidescan channels are wrongly identified.
I suggest downloading the trial and giving it a go, and if you do have issues come on over to our forum (http://reefmaster.com.au/index.php/forum/index), which we check much more often than this one.

I downloaded the program and installed.  When I try to run it I get  error.  Problem signature 09  fatal error.  I did a search on the web and tried several suggestions and no success.  Any suggestions would be great.  It looks like we may have a program that will allow the data from an Onix to be viewed on the computer.  :) :) :)

Hi Phil,
Could you please copy the actual text from that error window and forward to support@reefmaster.com.au?
DOes this crash occur as soon as the program starts?

thanks,
Matt

Hi,

If I rename the (original)  DAT file with something else that can say more about record file to me I get this:

If I edit the DAT file it's visible the folder name where all files are stored for this record..

is there a way to fix this?

The only thing linking the SON files to the DAT file is the name of the subdirectory, which must match the .DAT file name (this wasn't true for older versions of the DAT file). This means that you *cannot* rename the DAT files when using the sonar viewer. A better approach would be to create a folder with an informative name, and put both DAT and the appropriate SON file directory in there.

Ok..
the problem is that I have renamed DAT files because HumViewer support it..

Yes - we used to do it that way, when the DAT files contained the name of the subdirectory containing the SON files. Newer unit versions do not do this, so the only way to link the two is by the name of the files - and we now use this method for all DAT files.
Btw - I would recommend asking any ReefMaster related questions over on our forum (http://reefmaster.com.au/index.php/forum/index), as I do not monitor this one any more (that often).

Yes, using RM Pro & the Sidescan Mosaic module you can view as many files as you like and create big mosaics (see our website for more info and some examples).
