1198C si side imaging going black
« on: June 02, 2014, 08:38:44 AM »
I the location of my 1198 is on the console, its got bump and by a stump and pull part of the plug out of the back of the unit. I notice when I plugged the unit booted up, started to run fine. Then for no reason the unit started to load charts, I hit one of the short cuts to bet back to down scan or side imaging, and it was black. I rebooted unit and worked fine, until I changed to map when I was running the lake. I when back to the down scan all back again. I even swapped units between he bow and the console. I placed the bow unit on the console and worked fine. Does this sound like I need to contact Hummninbrid and send it back in? Or if there something I can do? Hopefully the group can help me.

What exactly hit the stump Steve?

It does sound like the problem is in the unit because your bow unit does not do the same on the console connections, so you will need to contact Humminbird about this.

The way the graph is postion on the console, sliding by a stump, there was a knot on the stump which caught the cable and pull the graph down and pull the cable out, of the plug. I was barely moving on the trolling motor. The stump caught the cable.

Does it look like any of the sockets in connectors on the back of the unit were damaged Steve?  It may be that something is now making intermittent contact and that is causing the problem.

I looked at them and could not see anything comparing to my other. What I will do is contact Humminbird and box it up and ship it in to get repaired. Thanks for all the input.

I would ask that the rear connectors get replaced due to the nature of the accident and just in case this is what is causing the problem.

Just wanted to follow back up, but I was able to download the latest software and corrected issue. Thank you for the help.
