Helix 10 SI GPS - No CHIRP? (Beginner)
« on: April 14, 2016, 02:31:09 AM »
Beginner here (with sonars).

My dad got a Helix 10 SI combo (we are fishing in saltwater, depth around 10-50 meters, Öresund).
Was very surprised when i found out after he bought it that it lacks CHIRP.
How can a product that is about twice as expensive as others (that does have CHIRP) lack a feature like CHIRP?
Again, I'm a beginner with this so I don't understand all the functions and specifications.

Also, because of DI is the Helix 10 worse than traditional sonars and/or CHIRP capable units when it comes to very slow speeds or standing still?

Do I need the Auto Chart Live product from HB or can I just buy a SDXC/SDHC card and put into the unit to get more than 8 hours list for the Heli 10?

Don't worry about the lack of CHIRP! ....your Helix 10 is a  top rated unit without it. CHIRP  is being hyped up as something "gotta have" important but it is NOT that big of a deal.  You got a 10 inch screen and that is much more of an asset than this over-hyped CHIRP stuff all the   mfg's are ramming down  the throats of perspective sonar buyers.  YOUR HELIX 10  HAS AUTOCHART LIVE BUILT IN....YOU HAVE NO EXTRA MAPPING SOFTWARE TO BUY! Read your instructions and it will explain it to you.

You will need a Zero Lines Card to record more than 8 hours data with Autochart Live .... You don't need the PC software.

I don't know the prices of the Helix 10 in Sweden, but in the US, you aren't going to find any 10" SI or Di unit anywhere near 1/2 the price of the Helix.
To get the chirp, you must go to the Helix 12 or Onix.

Thank you for taking the time to answer.
For example the HDS-9 Gen3 TOUCH has CHIRP and StructureScan (SI?) at basically the same price.
I'm just trying to play devils advocat here, I think we will be super happy with Helix 10, just having some questions :)
