New to me 998 CX SI - temp and voltage readings
« on: October 08, 2023, 12:00:48 PM »
Hello!

I have gone from a 798cx si to a 998cx si combo.
The external GPS is an AS GRP.
The transducer is an XHS 9HDSI 180 T

I have it setup in house with the transducer in a bucket of water and have a few questions I am hoping the forum can help me with.

1)  I have changed the display readouts but there is no option for showing temperature in any of those boxes.  The Accessories Test view shows only a GPS hooked up.  Is the sensor broken or am I looking in the wrong place?

thanks

1.
I hooked up the transducer from the 798 unit to the 998 and the temperature readings showed up so I am presuming the temp sensor on the 998 transducer sensor is toast?

2.
I hooked up the XHS 9HDSI 180 T from the 998 to the 798si:
When I power up the splash screen shows "Transducer Not Connected" and hops into demo mode.
To bypass this I select "menu" as it is powering up and select a normal start and all seems normal (except no temperature).
Is this a normal start when using this transducer on the 798?
Is it OK to use the 998 transducer on the 798 long term?

3.
I am guessing my plan is to use the compact si unti from the 798 on the 998.  My max speed is about 4mph and I cruze at 4Kph.  Will the change in the transducer affect side imaging performance in any significant way?  (I am happy with how the 798 was looking before)

Thank you :-)

The transducer or temp sensor will not show in the accessories test view  ...as they are not really considered an “accessory”  ...

During boot up the Humminbird core unit sends a signal to the temp probe in the transducer to determine if, in fact there is a transducer connected  ... if the unit doesn’t receive a return signal from the temp probe, the unit “thinks” you’re using the unit in the house for practice and boots the unit Simulator mode  ...

The fact that you are able to force the unit into Normal operation during boot up is a definite indication that the Sonar functions may operate correctly but not the temp function  ...

It will not hurt the unit to operate in this scenario, you would just have to force the unit into Normal Mode each time during boot up  ...

Rickie

BTW … during boot up - if the unit progresses thru the splash screen and then displays the GPS disclaimer screen (with Press Exit at the bottom of the screen) = the unit has successfully sent and received a signal to/from the temp probe to indicate there is, in fact a transducer connected  ...
