Title: Can't launch HumViewer
Post by: Free2Fish on September 24, 2014, 03:43:40 PM
I took my first trip with my 999 HD SI and recorded a short 2 minute run but I've been unable to view it on my PC. I was able to view a snapshot I took with the 999.

I just installed HumViewer and when I try to start it from the installed desktop icon I get the error message " Could not find main class: HumViewer.HumViewer. Program will exit."

I have the latest version of java installed. Any help would be appreciated.

It seems to me that I ran into that problem a while back and if I remember right, I needed to remove the program and reload it.   If you do a search on this site for Humviewer, there is quite a bunch of info that might help.

Thanks Phil, but that doesn't seem to be my problem. I've uninstalled the program and tried installing it fresh a couple of times with the same result. I've searched the forum about the issue also with no hits.

Problem is still unresolved.

I had problems with HumViewer and my 64bit pc.   I had to go to the folder containint runHumviewer.cmd and create a shortcut.

C:\Program Fles (x86)\HumViewer\runHumViewer.cmd

Thanks Jim, but again, that's not the issue. I get the error message described above when I run that file.

Still unable to use HumViewer.  :(

Free2Fish

I seem to remember a post that if you were using Internet Explorer to download HumViewer and it doesn't work, try Firefox or Chrome.
Searched for the post, but couldn't find it. It's free to try.

Thanks Rickie and Mike, but no go.

I tried coming in from the Start menu but got the same error message. I also don't use IE but rather have used Firefox for years.

I've got to think it's something to do with my Java setup but just can't figure out what. I have Java version 7. update 67 installed. Could it be that it will only run on version 6?

Does the author of the program ever show up on this forum?

Thanks,
Harry

I think I'm using a Java version 6...

You can download older versions of Java here ...

Martin does pop in occassionally ...
(You can try to PM him...if he has email notification setup ...he may get your request)...

I think I'll pass on trying to install the older version and just hope that Martin does in fact see this post.

In the meantime, I've got Deepview running and I can play around with it a bit.

Thanks for trying to help,
Harry

I think you can run more than 1 version of Java at a time ...so you wouldn't have to downgrade or uninstall your Java 7 to install version 6...

It sounds more like a bad registry entry to me.  Uninstall Humviewer.  Then Run CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) www.ccleaner.com (http://www.ccleaner.com).  Run the Registry Cleaner function (second button down on the left).  This should compare installed programs with registry entries and then give you the option to delete (remove) invalid entries.  Delete All.  Then reboot and try to re-install.  This should remove the bad registry entries and start fresh with the new install.

This is a long shot but it happened to me. I have a add-on program in Firefox that prevented a download of another program because I
had not re-enabled it following some computer maintenance.

Tried enabling all my add-ons but still the same problem. Thanks for the idea though. :)

If you're convinced that Java is the source of the problem, have you tried uninstalling both Java and Humviewer, and then reinstalling Humviewer, letting it install the version that it's packaged with?
