6.610 Update for 1198c
« on: March 29, 2013, 02:46:21 PM »
I see there are both a 6.600 and a 6.610 on the download section for the 1198c.  I read a while back about lots of trauma with 6.600.

Does anyone have any information on its reliability.  I have seen the description on HB site that 6.610 apparently "fixed" a lot of the issues folks complained about, but I am still disinclined to install it until I hear about its stability.

I'm interested in the response here.  I have an 1198 with ver. 6.49 and I need to know if it is safe to upgrade.

The question is....Do you need to upgrade?  Is there anything you need in the latest update?  Are you having issues with your unit?  If not, there is really no need.  I am still running an older version on my 1197.  It works fine and does everything I need.

As for being safe, I would say it may still have some bugs or issues, but there is a huge quantity of people who have updated with no issues. So are the new issues worth it to fix the old issues?

If you do update, and have issues or bugs, you can always go back.  Just make sure you follow the steps for updating in the video.

I hope that helps.  It may or may not answer the question but may help you in deciding for yourself if you specifically should update or not!

Good Luck,

Robert

Thanks Robert.  I probably don't NEED to update, but I always assume (yeah, I know) that updates are better.  Apparently not the case with 6.600.  Just figured I might save myself some hassle if anyone else had tried 6.610 and found it as poorly implemented as 6.600.  I've downloaded both, and am ready to try the upgrade if anyone gives it the thumbs up.  But I don't want to lose functionality if I can avoid it, especially since my first try might be a 5-day trip.

Guess I'll just wait and see what others report.

i have the 6.610 installed on my two 998s. theres alot of bugs that  come with this new software, if you can over look these quirks then you will be alright. the thing thats giving me my biggest problem right now is my network doesnt recognize  my non hs gps puck.it did using the 6.600, but that update had more quirks than the new. I think I'll wait.  Does anyone know what the last relatively bug-free update was after 6.49?

You're pretty much making my point!  What are the bugs - that's what I have been asking for?

Sorry if I was snippy Kosmo!  I just want to avoid the headaches that others have documented with previous "buggy" releases.  If you can, I'd like to at least hear about what parts of the system are affected by bugs; for instance, if they are networking issues, won't affect me as much as it might affect others.  Same with side imaging, I don't use it as much.  But if there are lockups, power-downs, that kind of thing, major asspain for everyone.  Cheers.
