998si Transducer Install Stepped Hull
« on: March 19, 2012, 09:44:01 PM »
First time post, this looks like a great and informative site.    I picked up a 998si for boat, which is primarily used for fishing offshore.  Problem is the hull is a flat back stepped hull.  I attached the transducer to the step but it only took a few minutes for the transducer to get flipped up as it was a little bumpy heading out this weekend.  I couldnt figure out why the depth reading was 30 feet off all day until the boat was on the trailer.  Flipping the transducer down is impossible without going for a swim 30 miles offshore.  Is there any solutions, maybe perminatly mount the transducer down?  Thanks in advantace!  Brent

No dry solutions Brent.  Try bending the sides of the metal transducer bracket inwards to increase the tension needed to kick the transducer upwards.

We have over the years added a couple of rubber washers to the screw and nut assembly to
1) tighten the transducee in the bracket and
2) not have so tight that it breaks the ears off if it hits something.

Water pressure at speed does push on the ducer but the rubber washers should hold against that.
