999 HDSI transducer kicking up...
« on: April 22, 2016, 11:28:32 AM »
Hi all,

I have installed a HDSI transducer on my 2000 Triton TR186 on the bottom by the drain plug, live well pump. I get great readouts and have no issues there. My only problem is my Transducer keeps kicking up based on the location of it. I would prefer not to move the transducer and rather find a simple solution as to how i can DIY a way to help reduce the kick up.

I understand the kick up is a valuable tool to help reduce the risk of damage and possible removal of the transducer. I'm just looking for a simple solution, if there is one. One example i might try is adding zipties on the bottom holes on the ducer to reduce this.

All ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You can remove the plastic pieces and bend the "ears" in some (of the metal bracket) to create more tension against the plastic piece when the parts are re-installed ...

There could be a fine line in modifying the xducer mounting with extra "hold down" items to keep it from "kicking up" ...and the xducer not being able to "kick up" at all ...

You might dry test your idea and make sure that the xducer will break your wire ties and still "kick up" if it hits something in the water ...

I have the same problem.  With my old Lowrance SS transducer I used tie-wraps and plastic tubing.  Ran one end of tie wrap through the 1/4"-3/8" tubing, cut it to length, then through a hole on the mounting bracket.  Then back through the tubing and then though a hole in the metal housing mount of the transducer.  Worked great!

To bad the HB transducer mount doesn't have these very necessary items, and don't tell me HB hasn't heard of this problem.  My next idea is to get some waterproof dense foam cut into a triangle/wedge and somehow mount/jam it into the the area between the top of the transducer and the back of my transom.  If you come up with a another idea please post!

p.s. I suppose you could fashion some mounting points for the tie-wrap and tubing idea.

Same issue and with 2 Merc 150's the ties were breaking too - I used chain link fence wire on one side of transducer and twisted it once gone thru hole.  This was enough to block any kick ups.  Since I ride mostly in Lake Michigan not worried about bottoming out - I will have other issues if that happens.
Hope this helped
