transducer level to the ground. I have the 898 on a 16ft G3 tiller boat and was wandering this, when I am sitting in the boat to one side I was wandering since the boat is going to be deep on the right side (standing at the back of the boat) because I noticed a water line when installing the transducer. My question is should I try and level the transducer with  level to the ground or should I try and level it with the water mark I have on my boat ? If I am thinking right, with the transducer level to the ground while boat is on trailer but when I am sitting in the boat causing the boat to be lower in the water and at a different angle, is this not going to cause the side scan to not be level ?? Just asking because I wont be able to test the 898 until next Wednesday  :(

thanks

Only if it is that significant.  What happens when you have someoen else with you?  Does it lean when you are running?  If not, don't worry about it.

If its just you, maybe level the boat by moving some stuff to the other side.  I have to move my scuba tanks to the port side to help with this same situation, but found it didn't make much difference with the SI.

About the only time the transducer being tilted would make a difference would be when you are very shallow or if you are trying to image something that is shallow to the side of the boat that is loaded (and deeper in the water).  Like Robert said though: “Only if it is that significant.”  This all has to do with the shape of the Si beam.  If that beam is pointed downwards, due to a significant boat tilt angle, you may not be able to see Si sonar returns from shallow objects.
