Title: 798c SI "International" or "Domestic version" and depth/distance units available
Post by: zebu on May 26, 2010, 01:05:20 PM
Hi,
I'm french and I want to buy a 798c from the US (because of the great price difference)

But I know that on previous models (like Matrix 17) it was impossible to select units like : meters, Kilometers and km/h because it was a "Domestic Model".

So I have some questions :)

Is it possible to select other units than feets and miles on the humminbird ? (like meters, kilometers, and km/h ??) on a Domestic version of the 798c SI ?

Is it possible to update the 798c firmware with a new one in order to have these options available ? (are there 2 versions of firmwares for "Domestic" or "International" models or is it the same firmware for the two models ? and in this case, would an Domestic version could be changed in an International one ?)

Last question, is it possible to use a european navionics map on a SD card on the 798c  ??
(I'm talking of a new one, wich had never been used at all on any sonar, because I want to buy a French Navionics map)

Thanks.

Zebu,

The US version cannot be converted to International version.  The firmware updates for the units are the same and the difference is hard-coded in the board itself.

There are also some other issues with Time-Zones and GPS.

Zebu,

an alternative would be G-comm in the UK where I got my 981 last year.

Ask for Ian and say hello from me. He's a good guy and makes best prices as well.
