Learning to use a 998 HB. Any advice on the best way to navigate to a waypoint would be appreciated. What screen combinations are most popular to use when navigating? Just using base map right now, will get a lake map chip later.
-
Just set it to split between base map and 2d sonar. Set the map zoom to something you're comfortable with until you get a map card so you know what water depths you're working with.
-
I know the lake I fish very well and have seen it drawn down several times. If it makes any difference. Do you keep zooming as you get closer and what happens when the arrival alarm goes off. Does that mean you are over it or do you still need to navigate.
-
You can keep zooming as you get closer if you want, as for the arrival alarm, you set the distance or turn it off
-
The Arrival Alarm will sound when you are within the Arrival Alarm menu setting distance. Once it sounds that unit will stop showing directions to that waypoint. I prefer to use the Continuous Navigation Mode (set this menu to “On”). It disables the Arrival Alarm but keeps giving you navigation data back to the waypoint; even if you pass it by.

Thanks Greg, I guess the arrival alarm is still set to factory default. I definately wan't to disable it. If you don't mind would you or someone run me thru the menu steps to do this.
Thanks,
Dave

Under the "Alarms" choice in the main menu, use the up/down arrow keys to get to "arrival".
Factory default is 150'. Choices are---- Off to 3,000'. Use left arrow key until --Off.
Under the "Navigation" choice in the main menu, use up/down arrow keys to get to "continuous navigation mode".
Factory default is Off. Use right arrow key to On.
