2D transducer
« on: July 26, 2011, 06:04:02 PM »
I am looking to add a transducer for the 2D on my 987si. What is a good transducer? Im going to replace the 987 with a 1198 in the winter so I want the best transducer that will work with both these units. Is a cable and transducer all I need to see my 2D while the boat is on plane? Thanks

The 987c Si (200/50kHz) uses a different set of 2D sonar frequencies than does the 1198c Si (200/83kHz), but at higher boat speeds you won’t be using the 50kHz or 83kHz so I would just go ahead and but the one for the 1198c Si unit now and just not worry about using the 50kHz on the 987c Si unit.

XP-9-20 DualBeam inside-the-hull transducer
Or
XNT-9-20 DualBeam transom mount.

You will also need the AS-Si-DB-Y Side Imaging - DualBeam splitter cable or the TS3 Transducer Switch.

I got the cable and transducer you said, set it on 50khz and I still lose readings over 7mph. What do I need to do?

Which transducer did you buy?

Go back and read my post again – the 50kHz will not work on the XP-9-20 or XNT-9-20 transducers but the 50kHz is not usable at higher boat speeds anyways.  These transducers are for your future 1198 unit which can use both the 200kHz and 83kHz frequencies from these two transducers (although 83kHz will not work well at higher boat speeds either).  The 987 you have now can use the 200kHz from these transducer though so it should work if you have them mounted in the correct location.  Where do you have the transducer mounted and how did you connect it to the 987 unit (AS-Si-DB-Y cable or TS3 switch)?

For high speeds readings your unit should be set to display the 200kHz sonar (Beam Select menu).

I got the XNT-9-20 DualBeam transom mount, I have  the transducers mounted on each side of motor about 20 inches apart. I got the y cable

Than try using the 200kHz setting (Beam select menu under the Sonar menu tab).
