water column disable function
« on: May 28, 2011, 06:05:20 PM »
Can a unit be updated and have a selection to disable the water column on SI or can only the newer units do this?
I have an older 2009 1197 and if I put 5.5 on will this let me disable the water column?
What screen is the disable funtion on?

Hi Mudlure,
If you have it after updating it will be on SI Enhance menu in the SI view and   "Contour Mode" will be an available selection. The default is off .

Thought I would add this picture to show the screen.
Just toggle the contour selection with the cursor key to on or off.....

Don't forget...

Contour mode does not do slant range correction, it just removes the water column, not bad, but with slant range correction it would be even better.

Hey Guys,

when I enable my 1198c Contour Mode, I start seeing Horizontal short white line in the middile of the screen, any ideas?

Thanks

Phillip, possibly a sensitivety setting or contrast.  Try adjusting the settings on the screen you set the contour on.

Something else I found out.
1197-----the contour mode is set from the sonar screen and the enhanced selection.....
1198-----the sonar screen has a selection for contour.
I would have thought the screen would have been the same..
So I am guessing that the 5.5 update is different for the units...

I have ver. 5.4 software installed and the contour mode is available through  SI enhanced menu. I will change the sensitivity or contrast setting to see if it makes a different.  I guess the angle of the HDSI will have nothing to do with problem, right?  The HDSI is “0” mounted “0” level.

Phillip, angle is every thing but it seems like you are mounted correctly.
check the settings and also you can adjust the surface clutter but that may only for the 2down....

Philip I would go ahead an update to 5.50 that is what its for. Mine is working good. I suggest you take your
head off the boat unplug everything take your sd card and map card out.Hook up power supply down load
your updates. Not sure but seams like some people have trouble and some don't I am  trying to get a handle on it.
interlink.eithernet, map cards,sd cards, it is not going to hurt removing them before you update. You would be ok leaving your unit on your boat just unplug an remove everything but the powercable. And make sure your battery is charged.
When you send your unit in to HB support I know they don't have anything but the head when they update.  Gary

You might want to save a copy of the current code in case you have to step backwards.

Philip, the SI water column look kind of normal.  with contour off you will have the center line shown.  on the contour off that look ok...
maybe put it in humview and post that picture.
I moved your speed/depth issue to a new post..

Chuck, I took these photo with my Iphone.

Let me take the photo again using the snapshot feature and post it again.

By the way, when you zoom in the top picture, you will see the horizontal white lines on the screen.

OK great.  the snapshot or humviewer screens are a bit better than the iphone.  But at any rate you did get pictures.  worth a thousand words.
Thanks.
I will try the zoom...

Philip, I looked at the iphone in the zoom mode and see what you are talking about.  Can you snapshot to an sd card and post that image.
or send to me as a jpeg file type at NCURT100@GMail.com
You just may be having a unit problem...
I sent you a PM also...
