Humminbird Chart Select
« on: August 23, 2015, 02:06:40 PM »
I purchased a map from Chart Select and followed all of the instructions. When I insert the sd card into the 899
it tells me that the card is successfully encrypted. When I try to download the map to the sd card it tells me that the sd card isn't compatible.Any thoughts ?

Has the SD Card been formatted to FAT32 ...??

Can you open the SD Card on your PC and verify there is an Encrypt file on the card ...??

Did you successfully install the Chart Select downloaded tool to your PC ... ??

Here is the Chart Select user guide ...

Rickie,
Yes it's FAT 32.
Yes there is an encrypt file and a profile file.
Yes Chart Select is downloaded correct I'm guessing because I have the map I purchased in it.
In the instructions it tells me put the card into the 899 and go to the encrypt card setting and follow on screen prompts.
When I  put the card in the slot and go tot he encrypt setting and I hit the right cursor and it tells me that the encryption was successful it doesn't offer me the on screen prompts.
When I put ithe card  in the laptop to download the map on to sdhc card it tells me that card is not compatible with Humminbird and that the card is not encrypted.

burgersb,

Did you actually open the two text files (ENCRYPT and PROFILE) and verify there was data present in each?

ENCRYPT.TXT should start with "Johnsonoutdoors---media---001---" then a long string of data.
PROFILE.TXT  should show a bunch of hex data fields, but the 2nd line should include your 899 software version.

3 Times I attempted to encrypt my sd card in the 899 and 3 times the ENCRYPT file was blank, but the PROFILE file had data.  Finally I was successful, but only after erasing the sd card in my pc, then powering on the 899 and going to the NORMAL menu (I think that was the name),  then inserting the sd card, scrolling to ENCRYPT, etc.  as you did.  This time viewing the ENCRYPT file had the data and later the map download was then successful.  Like you there was no menu options to follow, just the comment that encrypt was successful or whatever it said.

If both your files seem to have the required data, I think I'd try using a different 2gb to 32gb sd card.

It may also be an issue with the browser used in trying to download the file to your PC ...

Let us know what HB says ...

Just got off the phone with Humminbird. The trick is when you browse the sd card in Chart Select a Select Destination Folder pops up.If you scroll down on the left side of this folder to Computer.Under Computer you will find the drive with the sd card in it.
Click on it and it will open and have an Encrypt file in it. Click on open at the bottom of folder[ DO NOT TRY TO CLICK ON ENCRYPT FILE IN FOLDER !!! CLICK ON OPEN BUTTON AT BOTTOM OF FOLDER] and it will take you back to Chart Select where the download button should now be on.

Thanks for all of the input,
Steve

I was able to download my CS map, with difficulty.  I've downloaded many "protected" programs that used various means to ensure only authorized persons were able to use the product, but I don't remember any that had such a convoluted process as this.  Even more amazing is that half the world still uses Windows XP, but apparently it is not supported by the Chart Select download process.  I tried, thinking the instructions just overlooked it, but it didn't work.
