998CX SI +i-pilot link
« on: June 03, 2014, 04:51:32 AM »
To describe all situation - prologue is necessary.

I used I-pilot since 2010. Without link. Boat - Skeeter SL190. TM is Riptide ST80Lb. Everything was FINE.
This spring I upgrade 997 to 998 CX SI and added I-pilot link to current TM. It works BUT....

Since I added i-pilot link I feel different during our fishing trips:
1) Boat got very nervous on Spot-lock. Even in calm conditions with almost no current - spot lock is moving boat all the time and - actively... we usually fish 2 people in the boat and since we added LINK we recognized that now it's almost impossible to fish from front part of the boat... too much movements...all the time.
2) when I press N (follow direction) and chose(for example) 2nd or 3rd speed, the boat(actually i-pilot link) have idea to keep left and draw left-curved line on GPS.

As experienced user of Humminbird and I-pilot I start to ask questions myself - and experienced people here - is the I-pilot link software very the same for all motors? I have 80 LB Riptide ST. May be problem is that current LINK is from 55Lb Riptide ST? If yes - how to fix it?

Sorry for my english, I am Latvian, EU.

Please replay someone:
- is there different softs for I-pilot link depending on TM power? Where can I update current version?

PS. I kindly recomend MinnKota people to think about function - go-to-spotlock with speed less than 10. On shallow places there is definetely too much activities from TM and too much water flows from TM.

Please replay someone - is there different softs for I-pilot link?

There is only one set of software for all the Minn Kota i-Pilot Link trolling motor sizes.
What software version are you running in your 998cX Si unit?

To make things difficult: there are different software sets according to the Humminbird unit they are connected to and the software version that the Humminbird unit has but in your case you should only be dealing with one set of software.

Good to know that this set should work better.

Sofware for 998 CX SI is 6600.

Can you recomend me further actions?

For a 998cX Si unit running the 6.600 version software you should load the 1.160 software updates for both the I-Pilot Link Controller and Remote if they are not already running that software version.

Martins,
If you are trying to register your trolling motor I think you have to do that through Minn Kota.  The i-Pilot Link is registered on the Humminbird web site.  You may need to send them an e-mail about that as I can’t help with that.  I can send you the software updates for the i-Pilot Controller and Remote though.  The 1.160 software for the Controller and Remote should be on its way to your listed e-mail address via TransferBigFiles.com

Check your e-mail for the instructions from the Humminbird web site for installing the software as well.

FWIW, I cannot register my Ipilot link on the the HB site either.  Therefore, I am unable to access the updated software download for my unit or remote.  From what I can tell this update is required if I update the software on my 998cSI unit to accept the autochart feature.

The 1.160/1.160 software for the Controller/Remote is for unit software versions 6.600 through 6.890.
The 2.070/2.020 software for the Controller/Remote is for unit software versions 6.900 or higher.  The AutoChart feature was added with software version 7.080, so you would need the newer software updates.

Try calling the Humminbird Customer Resource folks to get help in getting your i-Pilot registered.
