Lakemaster Midsouth or Zero lines card
« on: December 03, 2015, 07:21:10 AM »
I have been doing a bunch of research to what navigation card I should get for the Arkansas lakes I fish. I finally came up to get the lakemaster midsouth card most because it is cheaper than navionics and from what I read, lakemaster has more detailed contours.  I fish smaller lakes which most of them are not on the midsouth card. With limited funds I am trying to figure out which is best, going with the midsouth card or getting a zero lines card. With autochart which was part of the Helix 9 if I get the midsouth can I make my own map on lakes that are not on the card and also enhance the lakes that are on the card or do you have to have a zero line card? I already have a regular SD card that I have playing around with trying to learn this unit.  I also think I read that with in the unit internal memory you can autochart 8mg without a zero line card. However I am not sure how much in mapping those 8mg would allow you to have before it started deleting to make room for new.

You can make a map with 8 HOURS of data without a zerolines sd card in the unit.  If you want more than that, you will need a zerolines sd card.

You cannot record or change anything on a lakemaster chip.  Thus, if the lakes you fish aren't on there, it a lakemaster map is useless to you.  You should be able to view a lake list for that map chip on the humminbird website.

You cannot 'update' existing lakemaster maps either.  The only thing you CAN do, is create a map on a zerolines card, and overlay that over a lakemaster map on your unit.

If you fish a bunch of unmapped lakes, I would recomment buying a zerolines sd card, and create your own maps with autochart live.

If you fish a bunch of lakes that are already mapped by lakemaster, buy the lakemaster card.
