More Pictures and Questions
« on: June 26, 2012, 08:34:45 PM »
Ok, regards to the first picture where I zoomed in, I'm pretty sure they are fish, considering the arcs and slight return. My question...why are the returns so light on the bottom fish, is it purely because of the depth? Also any idea of what they could be (stipers or cats maybe).

Now for the second picture, I'm not sure what the smaller objects that I zoomed in on are...maybe baitfish, but there seems to be to many all over. Forgive me I'm new to all of this, but I'm figuring it out. Thanks

Hi BR

Difficult to see what it is, best to scan again from a different direction.

staob:
Unless you drop a camera down there, or are willing to put on
a wet suit and dive, there's absolutely no way you are going to know
exactly what kind of fish they are, unless you catch one.

The bigger, thicker the fish, the brighter they will show up.
It could be that the bottom fish are long and skinny, like Pickeral, maybe.
I think the thick bodied fishes will show up better (Catfish, Carp, Stripers).

I would say that the second picture has a lot of bait fish in it.
There's one big fish among them (bottom right of your zoom).

Ranger Boats... er... staoB regnaR
On the 998 with 6.18--- under the "views" menu is "sonar/sonar zoom view".
This is 2D + 2D zoom at the same time. Rescan the GPS location with this screen as Rüdiger suggested.
The zoom level may be adjusted using the + or - ZOOM keys at the upper left buttons.
If it's baitfish, they will probably be gone. Otherwise you may get a better idea of what it could be.

                       Mike
