Title: 997 Settings
Post by: jsplinter on May 24, 2010, 05:05:57 PM
hello all,

I just bought a boat that has a 997 on it and was wondering what you guys use for your settings for best results in locating brush piles. i took it out this weekend and had a hard time seeing stuff. when i used the old sonar it looked like it could possibly be something but then when i switched to SI/DI it just looked like alot of bubbles coming from the bottom to the top. i could never really see any actual structure. there may not have been any there but it looked like there was on the sonar so i was thinking may the settings are wrong for what i am looking for, because when i see pics people post it is very definitive on what they are looking at. any help for a new guy would be greatly appreciated.

Default settings work pretty good.Color makes a big diff. the brush is not going to be real big
when you find it.Doug V from the BBC boards has general settings that work pretty well.
These HB are easy to ajust while your on the water.Gary

Sorry if this is a dumb question... but what are the BBC boards.. can you post a link to Doug V's general settings?

Thanks,
Brad

Brad,

General settings are based on depth usually.

Here is a post I direct most people to.  What I do recommend is making a few recordings and playing them back at home when you have time to fiddle with it, instead of trying to adjust settings on the water when you are fishing.

What settings should I use to get the best Side Imaging results?  (http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=333.msg1246#msg1246)

Good Luck,

Robert

BassBoatCentral has over 50,000 members so its assumed any bass angler knew it existed by now...and inside BBC is the HBird section where DV can help and there are many dozens of useful pics/posts there on SI and 99% of anything else involving bass fishing...an amazing website.
Many problems with SI use should be addressed in a better MANUAL that comes with such an expensive device..w/o that we turn to the Web.  I  suggested there be 3-4 categories to make it easier for SI Owners...Fresh water under 30 feet...Fresh water over 30 feet...salt water and special situations...at present the entire web approach is poorly organized as regards the REAL fishing conditions.
Guys have so many questions because of the inadequately updated manual, no extra laminated foldout for on water use (could be a $10 extra, who would care after spending 1k+?) and the dumping of all posts into one endless category that makes finding info/solutions/settings a lot harder than it should be after years on the market.
WE CAN DO BETTER!

I have been a 997 owner since late 2008...
