Where to put gps puck
« on: March 25, 2014, 09:21:21 AM »
Hi, I am going to be installing two units on my boat. a 898 and a 998. Do I need two gps pucks for both units or just one? And where should the gps pucks be installed by the unit themselves or as close the transducers as possible?

Two GPS Receivers for two units.
Each installed as close to over the top of the transducer as you can for better accuracy.
Each unit should come with a GPS Receiver in the box if you are buying new.

With an ethernet switch you can share your gps wherever it is located.  I have 1198 - console, 898 bow.  The puck for my 1198 is on transom gunnel almost directly over transducer for more accuracy.  I moved the 898 to bow but kept puck on console.  Only about 4' difference.  The gps for the  898 was hooked to my vhs radio and I saved by not having to move all that.  More of a personal preference rather than a necessity.

Are you running the Ipilot Link with those 2 units?  Reason I ask is you may want to mount the Bow Puck as close to the TM as you can.  When we purchased our boat there was much discussion as to where to mount the pucks with Ipilot Link.  Just a thought.
