OK, I did weeks of research when I wanted to buy a new fishfinder and I was almost ready to push the button on Lowrance when I started looking more into the accessories that I could add on to Hummingbird fishfinders. I studied long and hard and came up with the 898c SI HD with it's generous size screen so I could see it better with my old eyes and tons of features. I always download the Operator's manual to get the real scoop on how its going to function, hooking it up, and most of all the accessories. AS BP, WX-1, most of all the AS-RSL to get into the holes in the hyacinths, weeds and floton. On page 6 and 7 in the 898c SI HD manuals it says as plain as day that it supports all of the items that I want including the AS-RSL. I punched the button and order the 898 of my dreams and also find an AS-RSL to go with it. I drill all of the holes,mount it all in my boat, hook it all up and power it all on and PRESTO!!! a message comes up and says "this version of software does not support Smartcast,please update your software". I download the new updates and put it on the new SD card that I had to run to the store and buy and Presto!!!...."this version of software does not support Smartcast,please update your software". I contact support and they inform me that the AS-RSL is no longer supported by the 898. WOW, at this point I feel gut-shot and feel like I'm going to throw up. Did I miss something? I checked the manual and I thought I was safe, now it seems that I have to buy a 700 series just to use the RSL or I will have plug a 3/4 inch hole on my console and throw the RSL away......... Any other options that I missed?
