What is the difference?
« on: January 25, 2014, 09:47:29 PM »
I need help, I have looked but cannot find any 899ciHDSI vs 998cHDSI articles on the web.  I fish fresh water no deeper then 100ft. I am looking for opinions on what to purchase for around $1000. I know the screen size is a bit different, but can anyone tell me or give me a link or a comparison between the two? The 998 looks like a nice unit, I know the 999 about to hit the street Is the latest and greatest, but I was never one to chase technology. Don't know that much about the 899. Thoughts?

All of the new xx9 series units are different from their previous model in that...:

*Internal GPS antenna
*Faster processor
*AS EC QDE needed for Ethernet networking....(600 series is not networkable)...

The 899ci HD SI Combo ships with the Compact SI xducer that only works at 455kHz..

The Compact SI xducer can be upgraded thru HB for the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T ...which, then will allow the 899 to operate at 455kHz and 800kHz (DI/SI)...

There are some great closeout deals at dealers for the x98 series units...

Here is just 1...:

So the transducer on the 998 is a higher grade then the 899?  Also,  the antenna on the 998 is preferable?

Yes the HDSI xducer on the 998 has the capability of 455kHz and 800kHz...(the Compact only uses 455kHz)...

And the 998 has an external GPS antenna...this is preferable to some in that it allows the placement of the antenna closer to the unit's xducer for more accurate waypoint marking...
