Title: recommended settings
Post by: tfta on May 09, 2011, 10:34:06 AM
Hi there,

thanks for the warm welcome at this forum. I have read a lot but there are more questions than answers at the moment...  :P

Is there anybody who can recommend a setup for the 798SI HD for the following -to solve- problem:
Somebody lost his outboard-motor from his boat, this is half a year ago. We tried to find it during a scuba dive last summer, but we where not successsfull at all. Now I own a SI-Humminbird. At the last weekweek I drove several time  at this region - unsuccsessfull  >:( again. I guess the ourboard-motor is sunken into the mud. The SI-Images does not shown any obstacles like such a motor. The lake is not deeper than 6 to 8m over there. Now I will try to go over and over with different settings and different frequencies - maybe there will be some "hard" object into the mud.

I have attached one pic out of the weekends run. This shows at the 2D-picture a "hard" thing, which seems to be into the mud. But this was only thing a saw - and this is a sunken platform for scuba divers - my own  :o

Tfta; Nice pix. It like you are getting three (3) bottom returns and a lot of surface return. Try lowering the sensor setting some. I have a 797c2 and can pick up a coke can at 45 feet.
A outboard at 25-30 feet should show up real good!
What lake are you on? Enjoy Roddy :)

keep working at it. It takes alot of time on the water to learn them and yes an outboard should show up good with the right settings

Thank you for your replies.

It is true, the transducer was directly mounted at the trolling motor (electrical motor  :-[ ). this was, as I said, the very first test.
I will try to mount the transducer at a rod and 1 ft. or 2 ft. deeper than the motor.

On the other hand, I was travelling sometimes over the same position with different speeds and setting - this causes additional interferences  :'(

The I am on is called "Motzener See", 20 km south of Germans capital Berlin.

Unfortunately the battery allows just one hour travel with this motor, gas engines are not allowed at all (and this is pretty good for scuba diving).

Attached you will find a kmz-file for google earth. - It is not allowed to attach kmz  :o therefore it has been zipped. And it is to large. I will upload it on my server and send the link here afterwards.
None of them are as good as I thought before. It was my first time.

I look forward to any tip  ::)

Hallo Rüdiger,

english is not monther-tongue too - sorry for bad habbits  ;D

I have talked to Per and actually I am looking for SS/BT or SS version of Dr.Depth. If anybody has the possibilty to check if my data are able to generate a good BT/SS image with DrDepth - I would be glad.

So, i have downloaded some google-earth kmf files to my server. It looks terrible  :( but I will try to go on...
