360 bow mount, custom install front mount!
« on: June 10, 2014, 08:13:21 PM »
Hey all,

I am looking at getting the 360 bow mount transducer and am curious as to the clamp size.  What size does it close down/clamp to?  I have a minnkota power drive v2 and I know it will not attach to this trolling motor model with a 1 1/8" shaft nor is it recommended.  I am either going to fab up a tilt mount out of aluminum or make a quick release mount on the transom.  Theft is a problem and I like making things.   ;D

edit-
-Does anyone know the overall length with and without the "sonar" head?
-What is the pipe width (that the wires run through) that is hard mounted to the clamp?
-How "deep" does your 360 sit in the water?  If I am reading the install instructions correctly, with it being 1" above the prop, my 360 would be maybe 3 inches in the water.
-The clamp size?

Thanks!

I bought one and figured out a mount from 1/4" aluminum tube and 1/4" angle aluminum, the unit specs are below.

Hey all,

-Does anyone know the overall length without the "sonar" head?  21"
-What is the sonar head pipe width (that the wires run through) that is hard mounted to the clamp?  1 1/8"
-The clamp size?  it will not clamp to any generic size pipe.  with 1 1/2" there is an 1/8th" of play which can be solved with a layer of foam to tighten it up

for a new item out of the box, it does not work.   >:(  I changed the ethernet cord, redid the power setup to two different batteries with a 1amp fuse (per manual), reset the 998c hdsi, made sure I had the recent updates and it still would not make a sound or recognize the unit.  I am familiar with the 360 transom making a sound and showing up in the network tab.

Sorry to hear about your problem.
Maybe someone will check in that has one.....I would think you could hear the 360 transducer rotating.....but not sure.
Please post some pictures of your custom mount.  I am hoping to mount a 360 at some point.

Have you called customer service yet?

I have not called customer service since I installed it yesterday.  While there is power at the source and 3 prong plug, the unit is not responding (showing up on the 998c hdsi), making a clicking sound like a 360 transom or a burrrrr sound.  it's just not getting power.

Just to be sure I understand.   You say that there is power at the source and mention a 3-prong plug.   I am assuming that you are talking about the power cord on the 360.   The other end is connected to power from the crank battery, right?   Also, do you have your Ethernet connection to your unit or the Ethernet hub, which needs its own power?

the power plug has one end with the red +, black - and the unused shielding wire wrapped in a inch of black heat shrink.  the other end plugs into the humminbird quick disconnect which is mated to the 360 sonar.  I am getting power at the humminbird quick disconnect as I should.  I hard wired it to my fuse block which is connected to the main starter/cranking battery and when that did not work (I still has power at the plug) I tried hooking it to another battery and same thing.  I do not have an ethernet switch and I tried using a second ethernet cord to hook the 360 and 998c hdsi which did not work.  this unit is just not getting power.

I kept the tube at 12" since I was torn between mounting the 360 on top or below the angle aluminum.  When on top, it is the perfect depth with 3" of water covering the sonar and I do not have to worry about it sliding off.  This tube will also be my shallow water anchor attachment (I will have a 8' foberglass 3/4" rod coming in a few weeks.)  It is bolted down with 5/16" bolts from the trolling motor bracket but I think I will need to drill another hold closer to the hull to stop it from flexing.

Thanks for the Pics......It looks like a very sturdy mound......I'm not sure I understand how you are deploying the 360......I like the dual purpose shallow water anchor.  I was thinking about setting up one of those also.

Are you clamping the 360 on and off each time?

I am wondering if your power to the 360 is OK, and you have a communication link problem.

Yes, I am manually clamping it as required and it is really quick on and off.  I would attach this to my trolling motor but it has electric steering and no clamping collar as required.  The shallow water anchor will slide into the pipe.

I know the fishfinder has detected a 360 transom mount on the network tab and accessory "connected" tab under the system settings (it has deployed one) but this it will not.  I do not even see a network tab since the 360TM is not sending out a signal for the 998c hdsi to detect.

I do not know why I have to pay to ship this to Alabama since it does not respond to power so I took it back to Cabelas and they have another on order

I got a new one, plugged it (it made some beeps) and the 998c hdsi recognized it.  woohoo!   now if it will work a second time, who knows.   I'll take some pics this weekend when it is in the water.

Nice setup.  How did it end up working for you?  I have an Edge trolling motor and from what I can tell it will fit fine, but is not recommended being used for some reason.  I really like the multipurpose mount you've made.  I'd be interested in seeing some finished pics of the unit.

I forgot to update this so I just took some installed pics a few minutes ago...

I had to beef up the angle aluminum since it would torque when the front and rear trolling motors were on full

Here is it installed.  To build up the spacing between the aluminum tube and the snap bracket, I took the soft velcro side to build up the mount for a snug fit.  When on top and me in the front of the boat (there are always two of us) the unit sits in the water with 1" covering the head.

I like the mount but it is a pita the run up front to pull the 360 imager then to pull up the trolling motor.  I do like it being separated since I can remove the 360 and lift/lower the trolling motor as required to get around debris.  I am still unsure if the 360 imager is a "game changer"

Done a custom job for my bow mount 360, I've mounted mine on the transome via a minn kota Traxxis clamp and a piece of stainless steel tubing, saving lots of money over the deployment systerm and works the same.
