Post by: Nitebat on June 13, 2013, 01:50:07 PM
I fish with a person that has a 997c
Can anyone show me what a catfish looks like on the screen of this thing?  It is generally in Si mode

It's difficult to discern actual fish species on SI unless the fish has characteristics that stand out from the normal "white blips" that show on the display..

One can get a fairly good guess at fish species by knowing the normal fish patterns at any particular time of year...

For example ...these are probably catfish because they are close to the bottom and in a wide evenly spaced school...and the echoes are fairly large...

These are probably Asian carp...because there are getting widespread here on Ky Lake...and there are a little farther off the bottom and also evenly spaced in the school...and very large echos...

Crappie will generally be small white echoes in tight schools around brushy cover...
White bass and yellow bass will generally be in large tight schools in open water...
