Solix not working properly, wrong plug?
« on: April 14, 2018, 06:07:26 PM »
Hello,

I'm really hoping someone else can help me here.  Bought a new boat and brought her home yesterday, broke her in today and when I turned on the Solix at my console this morning I found that SI, DI, and other features were not working at all, they just had blank screens.  Sonar was working, but none of those other features.  Eventually I discovered that the plugs going into my unit at the back appear to be wrong.  The solix has a male NMEA 0183 plug and a female sonar/temp plug, but the plugs on the wires running down into my boat are both male receptacles.

Picture here:  https://ibb.co/hkZ3Gn

The pins were bent on the receptacle on the left when I unplugged it, since it was male on male.  I don't know if perhaps there's a female plug on the other end of that NMEA cable and they brought the wrong end through the boat up to the unit?  The dealer did the install and doesn't recall what happened - but I sure would like to get this fixed ASAP.  Is it possible humminbird sent the wrong plug?

Hopefully someone knowledgeable with these units can provide an answer of some sort, because at the moment I don't have a clue how this could have happened.

I think I figured out what happened.  The two plugs in my hand both appear to be transducer plugs, so there must be another transducer in the boat somewhere - I'm assuming maybe one glassed into the hull by the boat manufacturer.  The mystery transducer was plugged into the solix transducer port, and the solix transducer was plugged into the NMEA 0183 port for some reason.  I plugged the solix transducer into the correct port and now get signal on SI & DI.

My question then is what is the NMEA 0183 port used for on the solix?  I thought maybe it was for GPS however I appear to  have GPS without anything plugged into it.

NMEA 0183 port is used to connect an external GPS antenna to SOLIX - with the AS GPS NMEA adapter cable https://www.humminbird.com/productDetail-Accessory.aspx?Pageid=728&id=3299

Those xducer cables should have part numbers printed on them about 1ft from the connector end  ...

The other cable is most likely a shoot thru hull XP 14 20 xducer (2d only)  ...
