Navionics Maps
« on: March 22, 2010, 10:21:34 AM »
I installed the HotMaps Paltinum chip in my HB898  and it will not show contour lines less than 6FT. How do you get the Lake Pictures ,Satellite photo overlay,3-Dimensional view to work. The Lake Palestine Texas map does not show any contour lines in the bays and north end of the lake. It only says timber and distance to the dam. I only fish in Flat creek area so this is a BIG disappointment. The paper HotMAPS  show the contours for all the lake Palestine areas.

I don’t know what detail Navionics has on their Platinum chip for your area but I do know that there is supposed to be an upcoming software update for the units to allow the Platinum maps to fully work with the units.  This may be some of what you are seeing (or not seeing in your case).

Kenosha

I have Navionics and the 2010 Platinum S Chip.  I pulled up Lake Palestine and as you said there does not appear to be any contour lines below 6 ft.  I also pulled up Hi Def Lake Eufaula, in OK and like Palestine contour lines stop at 6 feet.  Since I live in CA I do not know what we would see when actually see on the lake.

Hopefully someone will have more information.

Hey.  I'm also a member of Crappie.com and have posted some q's on SI there.  One reply says he talked to HB and the fix/update for your issue is 2-3 weeks out.  FYI.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Platinum and Premium maps? It looks like I'm going to have to order one for up here in Canada.

the Platinum mapping cards are the Premium mapping cards with some extra Basically features like 3D mapping, photo overlay of some marines/ports and some other items.  Suggest you check the FAQ page on Navionics web site for a more detailed list.

Thanks Greg. I have checked out their site and it seems that the platinum would be better for larger areas and not the small lakes I fish up here. It will still be over another month before the ice is off the lakes. Just received my 1197c SI last week so I have a little time to play with it and decide.
