Transducer location
« on: March 30, 2016, 11:52:13 PM »
I am looking for suggestions on where to mount thw transducer for a 1199ci hd si on  a rivited hull.  I will install a mounting plate for the transducer so I don't have more holed to seal like thete are now.  The black lines labled R  show rivet lines.  The black lines with the x in betwren them labled S   show strake locations.  I am thinking of installing the transducer at the right corner of the bunk which would put it between the rivet lines.  Any mounting suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Seems like a good place to start or left side of bunk but the might be to close to motor. Keep in mind of that bunk bumping TD during launching if water is rough.
Nice thing about using mounting board is you can make adjustments if first try doesn't get the best readings.

Thanks Mike,  I considered left of bunk but it is pretty much in line with motor.  I am going to adjust the boats position so the bunk does not stick out the 1 inch that it does.  If there is only 1 rivet line under the bunk I will try to mount the transponder right where the bunk is.  I will have to experiment a little with different locations.  Overall, I am thinking somewhere between the 2 strakes will be best.

I also have an aluminum boat and have faced the rivet challenge. Below is a link to my solution.  ( half way down, red boat )

I realize this may not appeal to anyone else, but how I located the place for this rig may. I took a piece of  1"x3" oak long enough to reach from the bottom of the hull to about 6" above
the transom.  Next mount the transducer to the bottom of the 1x3 and use a "C" clamp to temporarily hold the top in your chosen location. This way you can move Left/Right and Higher/Lower until
a good location is found BEFORE you start drilling.

I would use caution on how far forward you move the boat on the bunks.  They hang slightly out the back to give support to the transom to avoid indents on the rivet line, resulting in a "hook" on the bottom side of boat.  Just my opinion...

There is this option (along with the AS SIDB Y cable) ...

Then mount the HDSI anywhere for idle-speed scanning ...

SC, I can't tell for sure but it looks like a hull strake is in front of the transducer. This might cause bubbles or roiled water to pass under your transducer. If I was mounting it I would use the second position left of that bunk board. Bob

YOU DID A FINE JOB WITH YOUR TRANSDUCER SET-UP ON YOUR LUND. I CONGRATULATE YOU.  HOW YOU DID IT SHOULD BE  A TEXTBOOK EXAMPLE OF DOING IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

Is that three transducers?? What frequency are they all running at?
