Excellent! Thanks man. Maybe after a year I can try to make some maps with my 1199 SI again.

I haven't even looked at the tutorials yet, but the fact that someone has finally created SOME instructions for AutoChart is great.

HUMMINBIRD - YOU NEED TO GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!

I work with software all day long, and compared to most software in 2015, AutoChart is crap. People who fish remote areas up north desperately need this - which is why I'm sticking with it so far, but there's no reason it should be this difficult. Sure, it works - sort of. I mean I can stumble through and create a map, but there are zero (no pun intended) practical instructions regarding obvious questions and details and how to really achieve a good map, which files do what, what and how can you save the appropriate files to your PC, a super wonky 1985 user interface, basic fumbles where you can't save your data to a 2nd blank SD card in your unit (so you can swap out lakes at will). I mean, come on. This is 2015, you can't hide behind some stupid licensing scheme that hinders the effective use of your product.

Very dissappointed.

Question about 1st Tutorial - "How to Make Sonar Recordings with your Humminbird"

I see on the first image of the first tutorial you show that you can record sonar data to a blank SD card and you don't have to record to the AutoChart card. But what if you have the AutoChart card in the first slot (because you want the lake outline from the ZeroLines data for the remote lake you're fishing that day) and then you have to put the blank SD card in the second (right side) slot? I see no way to tell the Humminbird unit or AutoChart to record the sonar data to the 2nd SD card.

Do you know if this can be done?

What happens if you lock your Zero Lines Map Card with the switch on the side.  This might force your unit to record on the blank sd card in slot 2.

Ditch,

I figured out a work-around. See my post here http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=7561.new;topicseen#new on a different thread. Make sure you put the card you want written in the LEFT slot of your unit (at least 1199 SI units).

FWIW, the other day, I went to the lake I had been mapping to fish it. I had the AC chip in one slot, and a blank in the other. I used my AC map as the base map (selected from menu), and then hit record as well. I had no idea where the recording was going (AC or blank). When I got home, I put both in my computer and discovered the HB unit was "smart enough" to use the AC for the map, AND record on the blank!!!

Hope this helps someone else, you all have helped me so much.....thanks!!

Interesting, thanks for the info MT-ED.

I don't believe the Humminbird was smart enough to choose. Instead, I believe you happened to have the blank card in the left slot and the AC card in the right slot just by chance, so it recorded on the blank card because it was the one in the left slot. I was also out the other day and happened to have them reversed (AC card in the left slot and blank card in right slot) and the unit recorded onto the AC card.

Thanks MT-ED for your kind remarks for my tutorials.  Glad they helped you out, and have helped many others.  I wanted to create something to help with the learning curve for others.

As far as which SD card your Humminbird saves tracks files and sonar recordings to, I believe at some time I read that the humminbird will save sonar recordings to the first sd card that is inserted.  I'm not 100% positive on that, but will see if I can find where I read that.

Thanks!

CamoHunter,
You might be correct. I need to test this again. Maybe I lucked out putting the Left card into the unit first all the time.

So, does the unit have to be ON, and THEN put the first SD card in (i.e. so it recognizes it before the 2nd card gets popped in)? Or... Or... Or...

Humminbird tech. support - where are you....? A definitive answer would be nice (if anyone there even knows).

I found where I read this at.  It was on page 3 of the ZeroLines Sd Card Manual, "If you have more than one SD card installed on the control head, snapshots, recordings, and exported navigation data will be saved to the card that was installed first. To save data to the ZeroLine Map Card, confirm it is installed first."
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2IE_4njdjrPZUYwOFlKQW5nLUE/view?usp=sharing

I have not confirmed this, just what I've read.  I'll try it out on the water the next time I get out.

And yes, the unit would have to be on before you insert the SD cards, in order for it to recognize which card was inserted first.

Excellent Camo Hunter! Thanks.

The "Zeroline Map Card" document is new to me. If you login to your Humminbird support panel and search manuals for "Autochart" you don't get this PDF included in the results. So I've never had the pleasure of reading it until now.

I still say you should hit up Humminbird for some free gear :)
