Jigging Mode
« on: January 03, 2015, 10:44:04 PM »
I was reading on another forum about the addition of jigging mode in the latest software update for the Di units. I haven't updated my unit yet since it only 2 weeks old and was wondering how the latest update was liked? Especially curious about the jigging mode and exactly what it does. Thanks for any input.

And one more question. I love the way my unit works now, straight out of the box. Why do I need to update the software??

Software updates generally are there to enhance the unit or t0 fix an existing problem. However beware of the past history of HB and software releases, in that new release create new problems.  It is my opinion unless you know each module that is affected by the software change don't do it unless it specifically says it will fix a known problem. Always have the current level of code in the machine stored on your computer  or sd card so if you need to go back to the level you were updating you will have it.
These sonar devices today are all about computers and work like the computer. So it is important to keep this in mind when changing anything on the device.
It has been wishlisted to have databases on HB that reflect and describe each and every software update. Not only the current but several levels previous.

Thanks Chuck. How do I store my current level of code on my PC??

Create a new folder on your desktop...(mine is titled Humminbird)...

Go to the Software Download section and find the version for your specific unit...(towards the bottom of the Main forum listing page)...

Click on the version you want to download ...

Direct the download to the new Humminbird folder on your desktop...

The download file will be a string of letters and numbers ending with ".bin"...You cannot open this file...just store it on your PC for later needed use...

If you ever need to use the version in your unit ...transfer the ".bin" file to a formatted SD card for updating your unit...

I would "watch" others response to the new software release for a while before updating to it.  I haven't seen anyone report any problems caused by the release, but I usually wait a while unless there is something in the release I REALLY need.

Others with the DI units are saying they don't see the Jigging Mode in their menu, while it is in the 2D menu for the SI units.
So, Jigging Mode is kind of a mystery right now.

I think Greg is trying to find info about it.

It’s still mostly a mystery to me other than it is only for the Si units and that it is supposed to make viewing a vertical jig easier.  No specifics on how it does this.
