Recordings Playback
« on: April 02, 2014, 01:59:31 PM »
Just wondering what are the limitations on playback of a recording from one unit to another?  Do screen sizes or other screen specs matter?  Does type of unit matter (SI vs DI) or transducers (compact vs HDSI)? Thanks in advance.

Your best playback will be using a PC program such as Humviewer. You will see uch more and in better detail than the unit playback.

Thank you Chuck but I was really trying to find out if a recording from one unit will play on another. For example I have a 1198 and 998c HDSI.  If I record on 1198 can the recording be played back on the 998 or vice versa? If so are there any restrictions from one unit to another?

I saw this post yesterday and was hoping that someone that had actually tried this would have replied already, but I’ll though in my best guess:
Yes it should work because the sonar recording is the raw sonar data.  The unit you play it back on would have to have the same sonar capability otherwise you would not have the same Views to see the sonar data on.  Your 1198 and 998 should be able to display each others sonar recordings fine but a 2D sonar only unit may be able to show the 200/83kHz sonar data from a sonar recording taken from your 1198 but not the Si sonar data as it does not have the Views/programming to do so.

Or at least that is the way I think it will work…  ::)

Interesting...guess the key is that its only raw sonar data.  Thanks much for the replies.

I found and tested a couple of older (2007) sonar recordings from an 1197 unit.  I tried them in a 987c Si, 798c Si and 998c Si units and they played fine.
