6.68 update results
« on: June 23, 2013, 06:26:23 PM »
Had a real chance to try out 6.68 today to see if I could get back what I lost in the last couple of updates as it relates to image quality.  I am not going to it is all gravy but after really trying at it I was able to get images that were acceptable.  I found I had to crank the contrast up to around 12 and adjust the sensitivity accordingly.  I was able to mark the individual rocks around the bridge and mark my boat trailer on the ramp.  Next time out I will play with my 1198 to see how good it can get.

thanks for the info cookie. I was told yesterday that if I would run my 998c HD on the "saltwater" setting that it would give better quality versus the "freshwater" setting. Have you heard of this ?

thanks

If you can test the 2D sonar with different Chart-Speeds.

I have a 1197 and my 2D sonar looks good with CS at 1 or 2, but degrades badly at 5 and higher.

In the past, I would run a Chart-Speed of 10 when drop-shot fishing.
Thanks

I ran mine up to about 6 and it looked good to me.  I like to run 1 to 2 settings higher than my boat speed to help the images pop and my boat speed was 2 to 4 mph.  Did not go any faster than that.  This is much improved from the pervious update.  My images sucked an any chart speed.

I just purchased a 998C HD SI about a month ago.  How can I tell what version of software is on my unit to know if I need the latest software update?

With your unit on and running; press the MENU button twice to get to the main tabbed menu system.  On the right side should be a “Views” menu tab.  Go to it and scroll most of the way down the list until you see the Self Test View and set it to “Visible”.  Get out of the menus and use the VIEW or (EXIT) button to see the new View.  It should show what software version the unit is running.
