Over my head...
« on: January 04, 2013, 02:43:51 PM »
1st fishing boat, never used a fish finder or a trolling motor..
What I have is a new Lund 1875 Crossover XS, along with a 898c SI Combo & a 788ci HD DI Combo,
I'll also have a I Pilot-Link T-80tq trolling motor once it gets shipped out to my dealer...
I'm in the process of installing my fish-finder's and wouldn't know it, I need some help!
I've ran a 8g wire fused at the main battery to power an additional 6 blade fuse block.
Things I really dont understand are, the 788 will be at the bow, should I ignore the internal GPS in the 788
and mount the external GPS puck from the 898 near the (trolling motor that will be on the bow)?
Also it's my understanding the trolling motor will have a transducer built in it, will the built in one be as good or better than the 788?
And yes, I do believe I have all the Ethernet cables to connect all 3
And to be to the point, what the hell do I do with this NMEA wire?
Someday I'd like to use this stuff to it's full potential & I know a proper install come 1st!
Needless to say I cant explain how great-full I am to have found this wealth of info here!!
Gene

Gene,
I'll tackle part of the question.
If it were me, I would use the external GPS antenna on the bow.

I would leave the gps alone at the bow and mount the gps puck for the 898 as close to the transducer if possible. If you mark a waypoint from the bow you want the waypoint to be closest to the reference point which would the transducer at the bow and then vice versa for the transdom transducer. The DI transducer for the 788 will not work with the US2 on the trolling motor if it's there. The US2 is for 2d/conventional sonar while the DI is 455/800 khz. The NMEA pigtail will be good for additional accessories that require GPS info like AIS/DSC VHF radios or whatever else. With the ethernet, you will be able to share most info but NOT map cards. You will still each other's waypoints, temps, transducers, gps, etc...

Gene
    LocDown is correct.
I misread your post. I had you putting the 898 at the bow.
    Lack of sleep. Sorry.
