Topic: Question for Greg about switching out transducers

Hi Greg,
I have an 1197c.
For certain times of the year, I think a big Airmar transducer
would better suit my style of fishing/trolling than the standard SI transducer.
Other times of the year, I would prefer to use the standard SI transducer.

So, I will be switching out transducers, but I will only have
one transducer at a time on my boat.  I do not want two
transducers on my boat at the same time.

I'm concerned that if I keep plugging stuff in and unplugging
stuff from the back of the unit, that I may eventually damage
the sensitive connectors.

I would prefer to have a single cable connected permanently to the back
of the unit, and plug a transducer in and out of the cable end.

What would be the best cable for me to purchase to accomplish this
switching in and out of a different transducer?

The only thing that we have that will do this ITG is one of the transducer extension cables.  Unfortunately the shortest that we have is a 10-footer (EC-W10).  The extra cable should be stored as shown in the transducer install instructions (not sure how to describe it but it is not a simple coil) as this will help reduce it becoming an antennae for RF interference.

ITG, as in our case we purchased a more substantial connecter and waterproof for our swapout connection. Of course from time to time you must check the connector in the back of the unit housing. HB connectors are cheap and function just that way..

I guess the best thing for me to do is to purchase
the 10' cable, then cut it shorter and re-connect
the wires.

Chuck,  which Air mar transducer are you going to use?  I have a B-60 in my Grady White that I wanted to use as my dual beam. Air Mar sold me a MM-HB adapter cable to use with my 1198si.
I blew out 2 SIDB Ycables. Hummingbird is suppose to be working on this issue as they received/ ordered these parts from AirMar themselves. I have not heard back from Hummingbirds tech Seqenthia Smith in over a month now.
would like to know your results!
