Absolutely not.
Only by pressing and holding in the power button should the unit turn off.
It sounds like a power issue.

You should check your power connections first, then
fully charge and load test your battery.
You can bend the tabs out a little on the power wires (hot and ground) that
go into your unit (DO NOT BEND BOTH TABS ON THE HOT WIRE AT THE SAME TIME
OR YOU WILL BLOW A FUSE).

You could also check that you are running the most recent
software.  It may have been a software bug.

Good Luck

Sorry to dredge this post up but I'm experiencing the exact same issue with the View button and was curious to see if you were able to resolve your issue. I'm in the process of testing without any SD cards and will tweak the plug pins to ensure proper seating is made.

This may or may not have anything to do with this problem,
but, if you've run out of ideas, you might want to try this
before sending your unit in.

You may have a corrupt waypoint that is freezing up
your machine.  Maybe it's sharing memory on one of the
views that the main system needs, who knows.

I would back up my waypoints on sd card(s) and on the
computer first.  Make sure you have a good backup.
Then erase them all off the unit.

On the newest update for the 1197, it has an option to
format the NAV directories.  I'd do that too.

Then, reboot, and retry the view button.

If the problem is gone, then bring your waypoints into
Humminbird PC to validate them.
Also delete any duplicate waypoints, or any waypoints that
look funny/weird.

Then re-upload/re-install your Waypoints to the unit and try again.
