Since a 998 is coming out in Jan, will the 997 be phased out?

Yep.
The 998c Si will be taking the place of the 997c Si in our product line up.  So once we start making the 998’s we will no longer make the 997’s.  Not sure on the date but I have heard of retailers already discounting the 997’s they have.

The 1197’s will still be produced through the 2010 model year, so I doubt that you will see them on sale.

Differences in the 997c Si and 998c Si:
 * Faster processor
 * Video Out port
 * Ethernet port
 * ContourXD base map

Changes that will come with the 998c Si but can be added to the 997c Si units with a software update:
 * SwitchFire (this is the renamed TVG menu)
 * LakeMaster map card compatibility along with their special features
 * Waypoint Management System

Yes, Down Imaging sonar wil be in the units and is available as a download for the 997s'.
